What to Expect During Your MRI Exam
During your MRI, you will lie on a cushioned table that slides into the MRI machine. Depending on the exam, a specialized coil or contrast agent may be used. The technologist monitors the exam and communicates with you throughout. Most exams last 30–45 minutes. You can wear loose clothing, but you may be asked to change into a gown if your clothes contain metal (e.g., zippers, buttons, etc.).
Patients with metal implants, pacemakers, or other devices should inform their referring physician and our staff ahead of time to ensure safety.
After the MRI
Once your MRI is completed, a board-certified radiologist at Tower Saint John’s Imaging in Santa Monica will interpret your results. A comprehensive report will be sent to your referring physician. Most patients can resume regular activities immediately following the exam.
